Whilst at first glance it may appear these sectors are diametrically opposed, there is, significant crossover in terms of quality of product and service those all important and hard to quantify skills, including the ability to juggle balls, navigate unique situations and think outside the box.
With a degree in International Development Management (with a major in sustainable value chains and a minor in textiles engineering) my work highlights, whilst varied, include:
• Hosting fair trade wokrshops for Indigenous Andean knitting groups (when based in Bolivia)
• Working with a UNECE consultancy on textiles transparency projects with Mckinsey, Ikea and Microsoft
• Taking my charge (a girl, aged eight) through the Faraglioni rocks in Capri, accompanied by security, to admire the bat caves and chat about how dinosaurs used to live there (as part of my Superyacht nanny experiences)
• Racing in the Rolex regatta with my charge in Porto Cervo, Sardinia on a large classic sailing yacht (again as a superyacht nanny)
